GORP

A serious topic now. I'm preparing some gorp (good old raisins and peanuts) for a small hiking trip. In Danmark it is Studentenhaver, or student oats in the same way horses have oats.

This may be religion to some, but how do you make yours?

The one I just made is

• bran flake cereal
• salted almonds
• peanuts
• m&ms
• broken bits of a very dark chocolate - Lindt 85%
• dried blueberries
• raisins

So good! I am eating a big handful now:)

I think your way is best! Sorry I don't have a recipe, but maybe Amy does. Have a great hike!

Re: GORP

I'm not a fan of raisins--they make me gag. But I do like to have a mix of cranberries, walnuts, almonds, pistachios and any other nut I like. Love the idea of bits of dark chocolate! I usually can find the perfect mix pre-made at Trader Joes, though I get the ingredients and have my kids make their own based on their tastes.

We also are never without beef jerky on hikes.

Re: GORP

Raisins, unsalted walnuts and almonds, small pieces of dark chocolate mixed together in a container kept fresh in the frig, then a handful are nibbled on while waiting for the old fashioned oatmeal to cook.

Re: GORP

How about dried cranberries for a bit of an acidic dryness to compliment the sweetness of the raisins and bitterness of the chocolate?
